GT13E2 for Data Center Power — Resilient 50 Hz Generation

GT13E2 for data center power: fast-start, resilient 50 Hz generation for AI/hyperscale loads. New or used units, CHP-ready. Request a Quote.

Overview:

Hyperscale and AI workloads are pushing data-center power demand to records, and grids in 50 Hz markets — Europe, the Middle East, and much of Asia — cannot always deliver that capacity on time or with the resilience a campus requires. The GT13E2, at ~164–187 MW simple-cycle and far more in combined cycle, is a compelling prime, peaking, or backup generator for data campuses: it starts fast, runs on pipeline gas or LNG, and pairs with heat recovery to cool the halls, turning a liability (waste heat) into an asset. ZURN Power supplies both new-manufactured GT13E2 components and used GT13E2 gas turbines configured for data-center duty, so a project can choose speed-to-power or lowest-capital depending on its business case. This page explains the fit, the technical case, and how to source a unit or parts package — supported by our GT13E2 spare parts hub and GT13E2 repair services. For a hyperscale operator the question is rarely whether to generate but how fast and how resiliently — and a GT13E2 on a concrete pad answers both, with a footprint and a single-unit block size that match how data campuses are actually built. As AI training clusters and hyperscale regions concentrate megawatts in single campuses, the GT13E2's block size lines up with how those campuses are actually permitted and interconnected.

Specs & Materials:

The GT13E2 brings attributes data centers specifically value when they take generation on-site:

Our data-center packages use the same superalloy precision-cast components described on the GT13E2 blade and combustor pages, so spares are never a long-lead surprise. Emissions are managed through the SEV dry-low-NOx combustion system, and the unit can be specified for the local permitting envelope — including acoustics and water use — as part of the balance-of-plant scope rather than a later retrofit. We can also package the unit with a heat-recovery steam generator and absorption chiller so the campus draws less from the grid exactly when the grid is most stressed.

Supply / Service Scope:

For data-center programs we provide used GT13E2 gas turbines, reconditioned to a defined availability scope (see our trade program); new spares and consumables — blades, vanes, burners, liners — for the operating fleet (GT13E2 blade and other part pages); repair and overhaul support to keep availability high (GT13E2 repair); and condition assessment, preservation, and shipment from our Hong Kong hub. We coordinate with EPC and balance-of-plant contractors on integration, controls, and emissions compliance, and we can stage a spare rotor or hot-gas-path set on-site so a forced trip does not become a multi-week outage. Resilience packages — an on-site spare rotor or hot-gas-path set, so a forced trip is a swap, not a multi-week outage that breaches a power-purchase or availability contract and triggers penalties. Our scope can run from a bare used unit to a fully wrapped power block — turbine, HRSG, switchgear, and controls — delivered as a single accountable package to the site fence.

Compatibility & Applications:

GT13E2 data-center power fits 50 Hz regions where large, single-unit blocks simplify plant layout and match utility interconnection limits better than many small reciprocating or aeroderivative sets. It serves hyperscale campuses, colocation providers, and edge/AI clusters needing on-site generation, grid independence, or peak-shaving against volatile tariffs. Pair it with battery storage and CHP for a resilient, efficient microgrid that can island from the grid during disturbances. Where a faster new build is preferred, our manufacturing line shortens the long-lead hot-section parts that otherwise gate a project's in-service date. In markets where grid frequency is 50 Hz, the GT13E2 slots straight into interconnection studies without the conversion losses of a 60 Hz machine, and its block size aligns with typical campus import limits instead of fighting them. The GT13E2 also pairs naturally with on-site battery storage: the batteries cover the seconds-to-minutes gap while the turbine spins up, giving the campus seamless ride-through.

Why ZURN:

Data centers cannot tolerate spare-parts gaps during an outage, because every hour offline is contracted power and revenue lost. ZURN Power's in-house superalloy casting, HIP, CNC, TBC, and NDT chain means the GT13E2 blades and combustor parts keeping your unit running are made and certified by us, not brokered from an unverified source. Our used-unit trade gives you capacity in months, not years, and our repair workshop keeps that capacity available across the unit's life. Stocks via Hong Kong serve US, European, and Russian projects alike, with the documentation and certs a financed data-center build requires. Because we can both supply the unit and guarantee its spares for the life of the contract, the data-center owner gets a single accountable party for availability — not a turbine OEM, a parts broker, and a service shop pointing at each other when something trips. And because we hold the spares and run the repair line, the availability guarantee we discuss at contract signing is one we can actually back with parts and people, not a clause we hope never gets tested.
